Areas We Address

A day school would engage with us if they are looking to develop or enhance:

  • Israel education with constituents, including students, faculty, leadership, parents, donors and other stakeholders

Expected Outcomes

Working with us, a school should expect to develop:

  • An Israel education philosophy statement
  • A profile of a graduate
  • A spiral curriculum for all grades
  • Units and lesson plans suitable for each

Specific goals may include:

  • Boosting the Israel education curriculum before and after an Israel trip
  • Aligning with Israel education standards and benchmarks to create a spiral curriculum framework for all grades
  • Receiving ongoing mentoring on best practices in Israel education for faculty
  • Integrating units between general and Judaic studies
  • Supporting shlichim and on-boarding new employees each year with online learning modules
  • Infusing primary sources and perspective for grasping Israel’s centrality to Jewish identity
  • Teaching Israel all year long, and not just before the important days or holidays
  • Expanding family programming to promote Israel education beyond the classroom
  • Designing board and key stakeholder activities to foster support and understanding for the need to dedicate school resources to Israel education
  • Fostering student connections with Israel as a way to keep Israel central to their identity after they graduate
  • Enhancing Israel knowledge as a means of creating effective Israel advocacy
  • Learning how to address current events in historical context

Key Activities

We help schools achieve their goals by implementing the following:

  • Consulting sessions with school administrators and an Israel committee to plan and align CIE offerings for your school’s needs and goals
  • Professional development sessions with faculty members focused on Israel content knowledge and curriculum implementation
  • Member units specially designed and selected by CIE educators and delivered throughout as needed
  • Access to our online learning classes and materials
  • Sessions for parents, board members, stakeholders, donors and lay-leaders in your community
  • Reaccreditation and school improvement strategic plan development and implementation support
  • On-site visits to help steer the process and engage with faculty and students

Setting Expectations

To ensure the impact of our support, we expect schools to:

  • Designate a point person in the school who will communicate with CIE and with the school faculty and administration to coordinate efforts, resolve challenges, plan for the future and supervise logistics.
  • Provide an annual report to CIE about progress made toward achieving goals.
Allow teachers the necessary time to develop and implement ideas in their classrooms.
  • Provide CIE with supporting files in a timely fashion (budget, school profile, measurable outcomes, videos and pictures capturing the school’s initiative, etc.)
Have teachers participate each year in CIE educator workshops and/or seminars and/or webinars

To ensure the impact of our support, we expect administrators to:

  • Engage in the process of developing the vision and outcomes with the Israel committee
  • Model lifelong learning and engagement with Israel
  • Allot the necessary time for professional development and ongoing coaching throughout the year and allow teachers the necessary time to develop and implement ideas in their classrooms
  • Provide CIE with supporting files in a timely fashion (budget, school profile, measurable outcomes, videos and pictures capturing the school’s initiative, etc.)
  • Encourage teachers to participate each year in CIE educator workshops and/or seminars and/or webinars

To ensure the impact of our support, we expect classroom teachers to:

  • Be open to learning about Israel, and be ready to create safe and brave spaces for student learning and discussion, regardless of one’s religious or political affiliations
  • Engage in primary sources and how they can support context and critical thinking skills
  • Develop and implement ideas, activities and units in their classrooms.
  • Find meaningful and authentic connections to all subject areas
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate Israel in student-centered learning
