Areas We Address

A day school would engage with us if they are looking to develop or enhance:

  • A curriculum with high-quality educational resources, including videos, lesson plans, and learning activities that thoughtfully infuse Judaism and Israel content.
  • A scope and sequence and/or curricular outline for Israel education.
    Continuing education and professional development of educators on topics including Judaism/Israel content, designing age-specific goals and materials, and crafting graduate requirements and goals.
  • Deep-dive sessions for students learning about Judaism, Israel, and Jewish history.
  • A plan for educational scaffolding for pre and post Israel trips.
  • Integration Israel and Judaism content into general studies (e.g. IB curricula).
    The usage of essential questions, nuance, complexity, and diversity of opinions for challenging topics and current events.

Expected Outcomes

Working with us, a school should expect to accomplish:

  • Professional development sessions that combine quality Israel and Judaism education content with practical resources and skills.
  • Access to UED’s expert educators and curated resources
  • Practical tools to apply in your classroom or department

Key Activities

We help schools achieve their goals by implementing the following:

  • In-Person or Virtual Teacher training & professional development. Topics include: Israel Education 101, Judaism/Spirituality, teaching Israel’s difficult questions, navigating current events, dos and don’ts of teaching the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, teaching Israel to elementary school students, etc.
  • Curriculum development including integrating new resources, scope and sequence, spiraled curriculum, lesson development.
  • Coaching & consulting for educators and leadership including needs assessments and strategy planning for Israel education
  • Speaking engagements & conferences with keynote addresses, educator workshops and trainings, student assemblies, etc.
  • In-person school visits to meet with students, educators, and administrators.

Setting Expectations

To ensure the impact of our support, we expect schools to:

  • Identify a point of contact at the school.
  • Empower educators to share their experiences, needs, and goals.
  • Join the UED Membership with the option to participate in Mastercourses and/or mentorship.
  • Work closely with Unpacked for Educators to support the school’s mission and educators.

To ensure the impact of our support, we expect administrators to:

  • Support the logistics for educators to be able to engage in the development process.
  • Support educators in their commitment to Israel and Jewish education goals in their classroom.
  • Identify key stakeholders among faculty, administrators, and community partners to enable a holistic educational approach.

To ensure the impact of our support, we expect classroom teachers to:

  • Provide detailed information about classroom successes and challenges.
  • Open to rethinking goals and structure for Israel and Judaism curriculum.
  • Be open to both receiving and giving feedback.
  • Continue their own professional development and content knowledge.
