Areas We Address
A day school would engage with us if they want to:
- Provide excellent, actionable professional development to school faculty. School leaders seek to aid teachers in implementing Facing History’s pedagogical approach and develop the skills to have the often challenging conversations that shape a strong school culture and community.
- Offer individualized follow-up support that always stems from a deep understanding of the field of Jewish education, the challenges teachers encounter, and the unique school culture and mission of each school with whom Facing History works.
Expected Outcomes
Working with us, schools expect:
- Intellectually rigorous and emotionally engaging content and strategies that meet teachers where they are in their journey as educators
- Materials and techniques that provide students with developmentally appropriate vocabulary and skills to engage with topics such as identity, belonging, community, and choosing to participate in an increasingly complex world
- To create longstanding, deep relationships with Facing History staff, access to our vast resources, and inclusion in our network of other dedicated educators
Key Activities
We help schools achieve their goals by:
- Delivering excellent, actionable professional development on a variety of classroom disciplines, historical case studies and best practices in the field of education
- Furnishing customized follow up, based on relationships built over time, continued professional development and a deep understanding of the particular climate and culture of each school
- Providing tailored professional development for school leaders and classroom teachers, both in person and online, as well as nationally presented convenings, webinars and online courses that allow teachers to engage with other educators in Jewish day schools across the United States
- Offering specific grant opportunities, such as the Partner Schools Network and the Project-Focused Learning Initiative, allow schools to grow their teacher leaders and increase the schools’ capacity to do deep, creative work with teachers and students in a way that is sustainable over time
Setting Expectations
To ensure the impact of our support, we expect schools to commit to core professional development experiences for teacher leaders across disciplines. In order for Facing History to positively impact whole-school culture, administrator support is crucial.
